Yaoi fantasy: the plot thickens (Yes -- Part Two!)

The story so far: Martin has come out to a bad part of the country -- infested with bandits and slavers. The man he arranged to meet at the old ruins never showed, and now night is falling. The weathered, ancient rocks are filled with scuffling sounds and he knows he's made a bad mistake...
What could have possessed him to do something so stupid? This could cost him his life, or at the very least his liberty. He's heard of young men who vanished into the aether out here, and --

--and yet at least he had a reason for heading out to the badlands late in the afternoon. Other boys who vanish out here were stupid enough to do this as a dare, but Martin had his reasons, and they seemed good at the time. Now? He's not so sure how good they were, as he listens to wolves and jackals, which come out to prey as night falls.
Yet when he thinks back to the afternoon, he knows he'd do it again -- because the risks are high, to be sure, but so are the stakes. The old gypsy woman preoccupies his memories...
He went to the marketplace to watch the dancers. The gypsy girls -- and the boys too! -- are the best dancers, and the most beautiful, in the country. But he soon lost interest in them when he heard the story old Miranda was telling. He paid her a silver coin, and she told him all of it...
There's a place in the hills, she said ... a place known to a few brave men, where treasures are hidden. And the most precious of them all is a wyrd compass which turns not toward north but toward magick -- and not any magick, but the special siren-song that only it can hear. A song which you can follow to the enchanted isles...
"You wouldn't kid me, would you?" Martin asked when she paused for an ale. "You wouldn't tell a boy tales and send me out on a wild goose chase?" But Miranda assured him, the story is absolutely true. There's a tomb in the hills -- lost somewhere, but a few adventurers know where it is. For a price, they'll take you there ... and if you go to the old ruins when the shadows grow long, you'll meet the man who knows the way.
So Martin followed the dream of treasure and adventure out to this blasted place, and now he has begun to think Miranda might have been preying on his gullibility. Did she send him out here, to literally hand him into the hunting nets of the bandits? He can scarcely believe it ... Miranda is a wonderful old woman who's been an elder among the gypsies forever. Everyone loves her, she would never work with the bandits. Would she? And then --
His heart is in his mouth, for the scuffling among the rocks has become footsteps. He's in deep, deep trouble, and he knows it -- and not even the lure of the enchanted isles is worth this, even though the old woman's stories are still in his ears, and one word haunts him...
Atlantis ... the enchanted isle marked by the great bronze pillar in the sea, from which the magick calls out to the wyrd compass -- the compass which is said to be kept in a lost tomb in these blasted hills. This is what brought Martin into such terrible danger -- and knows he would come again.

The question is, will he live long enough to see the moon rise tonight?
